Project-based versions of Archie start with the same Rotary knowledge and instructions as the Custom GPT, but they add one capability the GPT cannot offer: conversational memory. Each time you use the project, Archie retains context about your role, your district, and the questions you work through together. A question about club visit scheduling in October becomes more useful when Archie already knows your district has 42 clubs, you're behind on visits in Area 3, and your DGN is shadowing you this quarter. That kind of accumulated context is what separates a general-purpose reference from one that works the way a knowledgeable colleague would.

The tradeoff is a setup process. Expect 15-20 minutes to create a project, upload files, and paste in instructions. No coding is required, but you do need to be comfortable navigating an AI platform's settings.

How Projects Differ from the GPT

The Custom GPT in Tier 1 is a capable starting point. It has Rotary knowledge built in, follows the same advisory guidelines, and handles common policy questions well. A project-based Archie builds on that foundation in three ways.

First, the project develops memory across conversations. The GPT treats every session as a blank slate. A project remembers your district number, your role, your committee structure, recurring policy questions, and the context behind them. Over weeks of use, this means less repetition, more relevant answers, and context that reflects what you've already told Archie rather than requiring you to re-explain it each time.

Second, you can upload your own district-specific documents alongside the standard RI library. District policies, local bylaws, strategic plans, or committee rosters can all be added to the project's knowledge base, giving Archie source material it would never have access to through the GPT alone.

Third, you have more control over how Archie behaves. The project's system instructions can be customized to match your communication preferences, your district's priorities, or the specific scope of your role. The GPT's behavior is fixed.

Archie on Claude — Setup Guide Available now Skill + Project + Files Uses Claude's project architecture with conversational memory and skill integration. Step-by-step setup guide included.
Coming soon Project + Files Provides file-grounded retrieval within a project container. Context management works differently from Claude's memory model. Guide in development.

If you are comfortable with AI platforms and want the most capable version of Archie available today, start with the Claude setup guide below. If you prefer to wait for the ChatGPT project version, the Custom GPT in Tier 1 serves you well in the meantime.
