Rather than spending hours searching through the RI Constitution, Bylaws, Code of Policies, Manual of Procedure, and other documents, you can ask Archie a question in plain language and receive a structured answer in seconds, complete with specific section references.
The name comes from archi, a Sanskrit word meaning illumination, a ray or flame of light. The metaphor reflects what Archie is built to do: light the way for district leaders by making policy easier to find, easier to interpret, and easier to apply with confidence. Whether you need to double-check your reading of a Bylaw, develop an idea for your district year, or work through a sensitive question, Archie is designed to help you see the path more clearly.
Archie was originally developed for Zone 26-27's 2024 Education Week in Albuquerque. That event focuses on preparing the incoming District Governor line -- specifically, District Governors-elect and District Governor-nominees -- to be fully equipped for their governor year. The goal was to create a 24/7 resource that governors could rely on for guidance, helping them interpret policy, navigate governance questions, and work through challenges in real time.
During Education Week it became clear that the broader district leadership team -- executive secretaries, committee chairs, and other district leaders -- would also benefit from access. Archie evolved from a governor-only tool into a leadership support resource for anyone operating at the district level.
Archie is a community-built resource, not an official RI product. Rotary International has not formally endorsed or adopted it. That said, it is built entirely on publicly available Rotary documents and provides appropriate safeguards.
Those safeguards are built into Archie's programming. It does not provide legal, financial, or insurance advice. It directs users to RI staff or appropriate leadership channels when escalation is required. It reinforces compliance with official RI policy throughout. And it encourages verification through proper RI or district channels for sensitive matters. These guardrails make Archie a research and reference tool, not a decision-making authority.
